2020 Wyndham Championship DFS Picks

wyndham championship fantasy

The Wyndham Championship is played every year at Sedgefield Country Club in beautiful Greensboro, North Carolina. It will be a large field this week of 156 players but a rather weak field to say the least. Coming from an exciting star studded PGA Championship to the Wyndham Championship feels like a bit of a let down but as long as there are fantasy golf contests to be won the show continues.

In fact, lesser known PGA tournaments is the best time to enter DFS contests I find, especially on DraftKings. When it is a Major golf tournament not only is every pro DFS player playing but you get a huge influx of casual players on every site because of the large prize pools. This makes those weeks extremely difficult to win and quite frustrating a lot of times.

Wyndham Championship Facts

  • The biggest names this week and the guys that will see some extremely high ownership percentages are: Webb Simpson, Brooks Koepka, Paul Casey, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood.
  • This course is not very difficult and we should see some very low scores again. It is short in distance measuring 7127 yards and all Par 5’s are very birdie-able for most of the top players in the field.
  • Accuracy off the tee will be a big factor this week as 7 of the last 9 winners all ranked in the Top 15 for Driving Accuracy. This is not a bomber course and the shotmakers will most likely be the ones near the top of the leaderboard.

Wyndham Championship Fantasy Picks

For the most part I will be fading the top salary guys who I expect to be extremely over owned, Webb Simpson for instance could hit the 25% mark. These weak fields tend to produce weak (no name) winners which is surprising but coming of a Major event can expend a lot of energy for the top golfers in the world. This is a tournament where battling for FedEx points is more important for a lot of top tier guys and players in the bubble territory. This leads to a lot safe shots and no big risks being taking. This is why a bunch of no names with not much to worry about tend to win these events because they are simply looking for their first victory on tour and that’s worth chasing for them.

So fill your lineup with a lot of mid-tier DFS golfers and aim for a well-balanced roster with a few sleepers thrown in to round it out. You can check out our Wyndham Championship Sleeper Report for many more sleeper picks other than the one I will give you below.

Top Tier Golfers This Week

Brooks Koepka
Webb Simpson
Patrick Reed
Tommy Fleetwood
Paul Casey

Justin Rose
Abraham Ancer
Harris English
Billy Horschel
Jordan Spieth

Top Tier Pick

Patrick Reed

Going to go with the least “sexy” name out of the top tier this week and that is no question Patrick Reed. Since the re-start he has been very quiet and you have not really seen much of him on any of the broadcasts. That’s not to say he has been playing terribly, in fact he has been quite decent and finished 13th at the PGA Championship last week even though you barely saw him at all.

What I Like About Reed

  • 27th in Strokes Gained Tee to Green and 10th in Strokes Gained Putting
  • 4 out of his last 5 events he has put up at least 70 points on Draftkings and has finished an average of 23rd place.
  • Great course history at the Wyndham going 5 for 5 in cuts made and averaging 85 fantasy points

Projected Highest Owned From This Tier
Webb Simpson, Paul Casey

Mid Tier Golfers This Week

Brendon Todd
Sungjae Im
Shane Lowry
Si Woo Kim
Sergio Garcia
Chez Reavie
Kevin Kisner
Brandt Snedeker

Ryan Moore
Corey Conners
Dylan Frittelli
Joaquin Niemann
Doc Redman
JT Poston
Russell Henley
Patrick Rodgers

Top Mid Tier Pick

Kevin Kisner

Kisner has now posted 2 back to back solid tournaments for himself including a 19th place finish at the PGA Championship last week. He also had a great weekend in another recent weak field event, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and finished 3rd in that tournament. I think he may be rounding into form and we could see a top ten finish from him this week.

What I Like About Kisner

  • 5 for 5 in cuts mad at the Wyndham with an average of 82 points
  • 35th in Driving Accuracy which will be an extremely important stat this week as hitting the fairway off the tee on this shorter course should give shotmakers a huge advantage

Projected Highest Owned From This Tier
Brendon Todd

Low End Golfers This Week

Charl Schwartzel
Lanto Griffin
Matt Wallace
Carlos Ortiz
Lucas Glover
Chris Kirk
Henrik Norlander
Danny Willett
Luke List
Jim Furyk

Bud Cauley
Sam Burns
Sepp Straka
Scott Stallings
Brian Harman
Charley Hoffman
Branden Grace
Cameron Davis
Rafael Cabrera-Bello
Zach Johnson

Top Sleeper Pick

Lucas Glover

I’ll be honest this week is going to be like picking a needle out of a haystack with the low tier golfers. There are just so many punt plays you are going to have to get be really lucky to find the right one. I’m going with Glover has played well at this event in the past and has gone on good runs this year when he’s on his game.

What I Like About Glover

  • Has made 80% of cuts when he has played here in the past.
  • Has been terrible in his last 2 events but prior to that his finishes were – 38, 21, 20, 21and 23. That’s a fairly consistent player for a bottom feeder price of $7300 on Draftkings.

Projected Highest Owned From This Tier
Jim Furyk
