2020 Tour Championship Picks

pga tour championship

The crazy 2020 PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship! The winner of the FedEx Cup will be crowned and someone will be the winner of the tournament. The tournament starts off a bit different with players earning a starting score to begin the tournament which heavily favors guys like DJ, Rahm and Thomas but it has happened that someone sneaks up and comes from behind to win.

With a field of 30 golfers left, there really is no sleeper pick to look at, realistically all 30 have a legit shot of winning this week, although starting off too low makes it much harder. In making my betting picks this week for the Tour Championship I am looking at two things: who is playing really well leading into the tournament and taking a glance at the course history of the remaining 30 players to see who has played well at East Lake in the past and who hasn’t.

Regardless, I have looked over the field and made my picks for golfers that I think this week have the best chance of winning and who I am placing my bets on. The betting odds for the Tour Championship will be a bit all around with no great value longshot sleeper payout as many will be considered a favorite to win this week. This is a good week to continue to look at twosome and threesome matchups as picking the outright winner only makes sense if you believe someone can come from behind to pull off the win.

Last week the scores were brutal for the BMW Championship and I don’t think they are indicative of how guys are playing but our scores were great with us picking both Rahm and DJ as favorites to win and Jon Rahm giving us a 3rd win since the restart paying off at  10-1 odds.

Favorites To Win The 2020 Tour Championship

Dustin Johnson

ODDS TO WIN – 8 to 1

I said last week that Dustin Johnson could very well run the table after his win at the NORTHERN Trust…and he almost pulled it off! He had a 66 footer for birdie on the final hole to send it to a playoff but lost to Rahm with a similar putt.  Still in my mind he is the guy to beat and has the top spot heading into the tournament. I like Dustin Johnson to win…but if he doesn’t, the others guys here we have listed are still possible alternatives. DJ has quite a few Top 10 results in his career so East Lake is a course that he is comfortable with.

Jon Rahm

ODDS TO WIN – 10 to 1

Rahm had a great final round 64 last week to lead him eventually to a win at the BMW Championship (and money for us since he was one of our picks to win). He is going to be one of the top favorites heading into the Tour Championship and rightfully so based on how well he is playing and as the number 1 golfer in the world once again. Lots of reasons to think that Rahm can win…not many reasons why he won’t.

Rory McIlroy

Rory has been pretty quiet since the restart but played decently well at the BMW Championship while others were putting up big numbers. You can never count McIlroy out in events like this and he is a solid pick to win in most tournaments he enters. I can see Rory going balls out with shots and he’ll either make a charge to the top of the leaderboard…or blow up and get ready for the US Open in a couple of weeks.

Bryson DeChambeau

Can Bryson use those big arms and power himself into a win? There are certain tournaments and courses this year that he’s overpowered and East Lake could be his last chance to flex those muscles and pull out a victory. Like most golfers, he had a mediocre week at the BMW Championship but as a betting pick this week he may just be the guy that you should key in on if you are looking at longer odds. He has had some jaw-dropping weeks since the return and I would not be the least bit surprised at him crawling up the standings.

Patrick Reed

The Tour Championship just feels like a tournament that Reed could sneak up and win. He is a good golfer that has a history of winning big tournaments when he’s not even considered a favorite. He had a so-so week last week but seeing that a win will win him the FedEx Cup…Reed makes a nice pick to win. He is far below to start off the week and I will probably key in more on him for twosome and threesome betting but at the right odds, he may be worth a play.
