Main differences

PRGR is a compact radar readout. It gives you the core practice numbers quickly and does not require a phone app for normal use. Garmin R10 is a broader training system. It is still portable, but it relies on the Garmin Golf app and gives you more session structure, more data fields, video features, and a path toward indoor simulator golf.

Metrics

PRGR is strongest when you care about club speed and ball speed. Smash factor is calculated from those readings, while carry and total distance are estimates. That makes PRGR useful for speed training and trend tracking, but it is not a spin, launch, or shot-shape tool.

Garmin lists a much broader radar metric set for the Approach R10, including club head speed, ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin rate, spin axis, carry distance, total distance, apex height, smash factor, club path, club face angle, and angle of attack. Some of those are measured or modeled through Garmin's radar system, so setup quality matters.

Indoor use

PRGR is easier indoors because it does not need the same radar runway behind the ball. That is helpful in a garage net or compact room. Garmin R10 can work indoors, but radar units need enough distance behind the ball and enough flight distance into the net to produce reliable readings. If your room is short, measure first.

Outdoor/range use

Both are portable enough for range use. PRGR is more discreet and faster to start because you can place it, swing, and read the screen. Garmin also lists up to 10 hours of battery life, which is enough for normal practice sessions.

Simulator capabilities

This is the biggest separation. PRGR is not a simulator launch monitor. Garmin R10 is the better choice if virtual rounds, simulator software, and visual ball flight are priorities. You still need the rest of the simulator setup: net or screen, mat, device, display, and enough room for radar placement.

Apps and subscriptions
