Here come the big golf tournaments! Next to the four golf majors, the World Golf Championships (WGC) are the biggest tournaments on the PGA Tour and world golf schedule with four tournaments featuring the top golfers in the world competing in various types of golf events.

The WGC – FedEx St. Jude is the invitational tournament which has about 78 golfers invited to compete in 2020 based on the following criteria:

  • Top 50 ranked golfers on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) just before this year’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational
  • Winners of golf tournaments worldwide in the last year with an OWGR Strength of Field Rating of 115 points or more
  • From the Asian Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia, two from the Japan Tour and one from the Sunshine Tour a tournament is selected and the winner of that event gets an invite
  • Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup team members (depending on which was played the previous year) are invited if they didn’t qualify under the other criteria

If you are going to be betting on the FedEx St. Jude then you get a smaller field to pick from and generally the betting odds are spread out more because of how many good golfers are playing that over half the field has a good chance of winning. The current betting odds for the FedEx St. Jude should be out at most betting sites by Monday and that will help you narrow down who the favorites are according to the oddsmakers and who the public is looking at for sleeper picks.

Favorites To Win The WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational

Rory McIlroy (11 to 1)

Rory has had flashes of great golf over the last few weeks and then fizzled. With the WGC and the PGA Championship next week this is Rory’s time to shine. He has limited history at TPC Southwind having only played there three times but he led after 54 holes last year and then finished in 4th shooting a 71 on the final Sunday. He has won three World Golf Championships and will once again be a favorite to win this week.

Justin Thomas (12 to 1)

Thomas came close to a win a couple of weeks ago and seems to be on the mark right now with his game. He played really well at last year’s WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational finishing in 12th but shot only a 71 on the Sunday so he could have been in the mix for the win. He will be one of the top picks to win this week and his betting odds will reflect that but he is still a solid bet to win outright this week.

Sleeper Picks To Bet For The WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational

Matthew Wolff (75 to 1)

Wolff is playing some really great golf lately but he also has had a bunch of missed cuts along the way. He finished 2nd at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, 22nd on a tough Memorial Tournament course at Muirfield and played well last week at the 3M Open. He is going to be considered a sleeper pick because of the star studded field playing but he could be a sneaky bet this week not only for daily bets but as a bet to win outright. Finished in 24th in last year’s WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

Daniel Berger (28 to 1)

Berger was hot coming back after the Covid break with a win and a T3 finish, then took a month off and missed the cut at the Memorial. He has a solid history at the TPC Southwind course.
