2020 BMW Championship Picks

bmw championship golf

Now we are down to the serious golfers with the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs and a cut down field of 70 players heading to the BMW Championship. Played at the north course of Olympia Fields CC we’ll see a much stronger field in a no cut event this week all try to make the final cut of Top 30 to play at the Tour Championship and for the big $15 million check.

The course will be new to most players aside from any that played at the 2015 US Amateur Championship (won by Bryson Dechambeau) so course history won’t be much of a factor in making betting picks this week. Also with so many good golfers in the field, the betting odds are a bit higher as there are more players that have a legit chance of winning so when you make some outright bets to with the BMW Championship, chances are you payouts will be better than in a standard tournament.

Dustin Johnson

ODDS TO WIN – 8 to 1

It was only a few weeks ago that Johnson was putting up rounds of 80 and missing cuts and now he seems to have found his game and legit looks like a guy who could win the FedEx Cup this year. As I started to write his name I liked DJ to win this week and low and behold he came out and won last week’s NORTHERN Trust. Normally I don’t like golfers to win two weeks in a row but he was called out a couple of weeks ago by Brooks Koepka and DJ could just decide to run the table. His odds will be low and not a great outright win payout but look at him for your twosome and threesome bets and try to make some money there.

Jon Rahm

ODDS TO WIN – 10 to 1

Rahm may be poised to break out and take over the FedEx Cup starting this week. He finished in 13th at the PGA Championship and had a great weekend last week at the Northern Trust. He has played at Olympia Fields in that same 2015 US Amateur Championship (although I wouldn’t bet on him just because of that) and to win the FedEx Cup winning one of the next two weeks is important if you want to take home to big cash prize. Most of the other favorites in the field have had their struggles and show no signs of breaking out whereas Rahm is looking like a solid bet to win!

Sleeper Picks For The BMW Championship

Matthew Fitzpatrick

ODDS TO WIN – 50 to 1

I was really a big fan of Fitzpatrick heading into the PGA Championship…and he missed the cut. I thought he would bounce back last week and then he missed the cut again! BUT….he shot a 66 in his second round and hopefully he’s turned a corner heading into the BMW Championship. He will be longer odds to win and he is still one of the best golfers in the world so don’t sleep too much on him as a sleeper pick for the BMW Championship!

Alex Noren

ODDS TO WIN – 66 to 1

Quietly Alex Noren is having a solid stretch of golf tournaments and last week’s NORTHERN Trust was no different. To make it into next week’s tournament Noren will really have to pull off a great finish (possibly even a win) to punch his ticket to East Lake so if you want to bet on him outright to win then you are at least picking a guy that has some incentive to play his best.

Bonus BMW Championship Betting Picks

Tiger Woods (33 to 1) – Because he’s Tiger Woods! Do I need more reasons to look at betting on him to win? Tiger didn’t play particularly well last week but he had some good moments and did shoot a -5 on Sunday. Tiger is always worth a look when it comes to making a bet on.

Jason Day (25 to 1) – Day missed the cut last week but that broke a string of four Top 10 finishes in a row. I am hoping that a week off hasn’t cooled him right off and for him to make it into the Tour Championship he’ll need another good finish to make the final cut of 30. He checks a lot of my betting boxes this week at pretty decent odds.
